2014 County Seniors Championship - Report

The WUGC County Seniors Championship 2014

Played at Kidderminster Golf Club on Wednesday 25th June

The weather was perfect as 33 seniors gathered to play for the Seniors Strokeplay Championships. The course was in excellent condition, whilst the ground conditions were fast and firm. Some of the pin positions were very tricky and getting on the 'wrong side' left the players with some very challenging chips or putts. This was reflected in the scoring which led to only three players breaking 80 and the competition becoming one which was 'reduction only'.

At the end of play, three players were tied on 79 gross. Gordon Bailey, Bill Thompson and Will Painter. A three hole play-off over the 1st 2nd, and 12th got underway to find a winner. Gordon Bailey holed two excellent putts to complete the three holes in par whilst Bill Thompson and Will Painter bogeyed the 12th to finish runners up.

Many congratulations to Gordon Bailey ( Worcs G&CC) , our 2014 Champion, who now goes forward to represent Worcestershire in the National Seniors Champion of Champions Finals at Woodhall Spa on 13th&14th Sept this year.

Congratulations to Willie Kerr who won the Denis Hayes Salver for the best nett.
