2nd Team v Derbyshire @ Ashbourne GC on Sunday 8th May 2016 - REPORT
The 2nd team started their new league campaign away against Derbyshire at Ashbourne GC on Sunday 8th May. Many of the team took the opportunity to get a practice round at the course before the match, as Ashbourne is known as a tricky and testing course needing a good knowledge of the layout of the holes to play to your best ability.
The morning foursomes could have gone either way, with all matches relatively tight. However, the golfing gods were against us and the lunchtime score was 1/2 v 4 1/2. An afternoon fightback was required, and almost materialised with Worcestershire winning the afternoon singles 6 v 4. However, this left the overall result 6 /2 v 8 1/2.
Team Captain, Russ Ager, was keen to emphasise the positives, with the bulk of the team taking points on the day. All thoughts now turn to the next match at home against Staffordshire, at Kings Norton GC on Sunday 5th June.
Russ also wanted to pay special thanks to Dave McDermott from the WUGC Executive, who made the long trio to support his team for the whole day.
