2nd Team v Derbyshire at Kings Norton GC - Sunday 3rd September
With the final game of the season upon us the side arrived at Kings Norton GC in good spirits despite our lowly league position.
The players headed off for the morning foursomes and were greeted with some difficult playing conditions, with strong winds and rain proving tough for both sides. Wins for Bird & Fuell (4&3) and a creditable halve by McPherson & Reeves, meant the side were a disappointing 3 ½ v 1 1/2 down at lunch. With all to play for and a strong determination from all the guys to end the season with a win we started the singles with an excellent 4&3 win by debutant Bobby Campbell. Further wins by Bird (1 up) and Reeves 2&1 meant we clawed back some ground on Derbyshire. Unfortunately with only a half from Ben Myatt in the closing games meant, we finished with a season closing defeat of 10-5. Special thanks and well done to young Connor Thomas who fitted in well with the group and acquitted himself well.
I must thank all the guys who played throughout the season for their efforts and support. It hasn't been the season I and the lads wanted, but as a group we will learn and improve going forward. I have enjoyed the season despite the ups and downs, and I feel better equipped for next season, having learning a lot along the way
Finally, thank you to Kings Norton for looking after us exceptionally well all day, both on and off the course. Also thanks to Dave McDermott, Bill Thompson, Will Painter, and Grenville Rose, along with members from Kings Norton who supported the lads throughout the day - it's always very much appreciated
2nd Team Captain, Steve Bird
