Match Score Sheet.

Stourbridge Golf Club hosted Worcestershire 2nd Team's first home match of the season against last years league winners in a very strong Nottinghamshire side.

Nathan Slater and Jake Kelly playing their first game for the 2nds got us off to a great start with a 3&1 win followed by wins for Macpherson and Bird, Reeves and Fuell along with a crucial half by Tom Deehan and young Aaron Bryan who was also making his 2nds debut, thus giving us a foursomes lead of 3 1/2- 1 1/2 going into the afternoon singles.

Needing 4 1/2 more points to gain victory, Kelly lead us off with a battling half, a gutsy 1 up win from Slater and another half from Bird gave us the impetus to realise we might just get that elusive win, but the next three matches went Nottinghamshire’s way. Then the rear order showed their strength. A win for Reeves 1up, Fuell winning the last hole for a half, Deehan showing his class with a 5&4 win and finally Bryan gaining a 2&1 victory gave us a 9-6 winning margin. Special mention goes to all the debutants who ended the day unbeaten.

My thanks go to Stourbridge golf club for presenting a course in excellent condition and in particular their club captain Dave Fourness who greeted us all on arrival, Past Presidents Denis Hayes and Grenville Rose who came to support us during the morning foursomes and our ever present Vice President Dave Mcdermott, who has supported the 2nds for as long as I can remember.

This was my first game as 2nds captain and speaking to the Notts captain afterwards he remarked how much they enjoy playing against Worcs because of the great spirit and camaraderie between the two teams.

Guys it was my pleasure to lead you today, you made me proud.

Duncan Macpherson
County 2nd Team Captain
