2nd Team v Warwickshire - Stourbridge GC on Sunday 2nd August 2015 REPORT

The County 2nd Team were in good spirits as they assembled at Stourbridge GC for the league match against Warwickshire. A win would almost certainly mean that a league title would be at stake in the final match of the season against Nottinghamshire in September.

The morning foursomes ebbed and flowed as normal and our first 2 points were won by the pairs of Josh Bryan/Paul Reeves and Craig Richardson/Scott Mason. A fine fightback by James Robinson and Kieron Austin made sure that their game came down the 18th. The Warwickshire pair looked in good position to sneak a win, but Kieron played the "shot of the day" when, with a restricted backswing, he floated the ball to 6 feet on the last, leaving James to calmly roll in the putt for a birdie 3, and a 1up win.

Warwickshire have a very strong side, and the team knew that the singles would be a serious battle. Both Josh Bryan and Craig Richardson completed very successful days, winning their singles to pick up maximum points on the day. Other wins came from the captain, Russ Ager, playing under very trying conditions, and Steve Bird. However, we were ultimately to fall just one point short, losing 7 v 8.

In his closing remarks, Russ was keen to thank his team for a tremendous effort, and hopes that they will all re-group for the final match against Nottinghamshire at Kidderminster GC on Sunday 6th September. Russ also mentioned the great support received from Bill Thompson, Peter Adams, Dave McDermott and Denis Hayes

Both team captains, on behalf of all the players,  commented on the fabulous condition of the course, with the greens being the jewel in the crown. Coupled with excellent food and a friendly reception from all at Stourbridge GC, this is a venue that the County must visit again in the near future.
