Some 84 players made their way to Redditch Golf Club on Sunday 15th May 2016 to contest the 60th Annual Worcestershire Club Foursomes event for The Boulton Salver.
As ever, the welcome from Redditch GC was superb, and the course was in excellent condition due to the hard work of Carl and his team. Play started at 8.30pm in the morning in glorious conditions, which were to remain for most of the day.
The best scores in the morning came from Steve Bird & Gary Bristow (Redditch GC) with a nett 73, and Mark Watson & Phil White (Fulford Heath) with a nett 73.5. There were also three pairs on 74 nett, so everyone was predicting a close finish later in the day.
Steve Bird & Gary Bristow added a solid afternoon round of 77 nett to their morning round, and were leaders in the clubhouse for some time. However, another Redditch pair, Jack Buckley & Jamie Rowbottom, came in with an afternoon 73 nett, thus equalling the leading total of 150 nett for the 36 holes.
Whilst other pairs were to come close - notably Josh Bryan & Jack Humphreys (Worcester G&CC) on 151, Mark Goddard & Craig Blackford (Redditch Kingfisher), Paul Carter & Dan Jackson (Halesowen) and Dan Jones & Norbeth Salmon (Wharton Park) all on 152 - no one was to overtake the two Redditch GC pairs.
The rules of the event allow for the overall winner to be decided on card count back, initially over the last 18 holes, and this meant that Jack & Jamie were declared the winners of the Boulton Salver. Steve & Gary took the gross prize with rounds of 75 and 79.

Will Painter, President of The Worcestershire Union of Golf Clubs, was joined by Cas Capewell, Captain of Redditch GC, at the prize presentation. Cas welcomed everyone to Redditch Gc and Will thanked Redditch GC for hosting the day and providing a course in such excellent condition for the competition.
Will also thanked Dave McDermott, Peter Adams and Denis Hayes for acting as starters and helping at the administration desk. The County referees, Tony Edwards and John Brothwood, were also thanked and it was noted that they were both out on the course for 11 hours ensuring the smooth running of the day.
As winners Redditch GC will be asked to host the event again in 2017.
