Boys Championships 28.7.14 - Report and pictures

Report on the U18 & U16 Boys Championships at Fulford Heath

on 28th July 2014

On a hot, humid day at Fulford Heath G.C. over 50 boys battled it out to become the 2014 Worcestershire Boys U18 and U16 Champions.

The course was in terrific condition, thanks to the work of Kim Blake ( Head Greenkeeper) and his staff. The Captain of Fulford Heath G.C. , Mike Thomas, kindly attended the prize presentation and was full of praise for the positive attitudes and steely determination shown by all the boys. The County would like to take this opportunity to thank Fulford Heath G.C. for hosting in this event as well as for their warm hospitality in looking after all the competitors and County Officials throughout the day.

As the day progressed, the low handicappers started to assert their authority on the final results. Gross 69s' from Oliver Farrell and James Robinson in the morning took the joint leadership but in the afternoon, local favourite, Tom Godfrey, produced the round of the day, a 66 gross, to take the lead. Oliver Farrell held his nerve in the afternoon to produce another 69 gross, despite dropping two shots in the last three holes, to win the Championship by one stroke from Tom. This was another fine achievement by Oliver who adds this title to his Midland Youths success earlier this month.
