Boys U16 v Warwickshire at Kings Norton GC on Friday 22nd July - REPORT

The Worcestershire Boys under sixteen team started their league campaign on Friday at Kings Norton Golf Club. The match was against an experienced Warwickshire side.

The Worcestershire Boys U16 Team who played Warwickshire on Friday 22nd July at Kings Norton Golf Club.

Warwickshire started the foursomes well with good victories in the first two games of the day. Brandon Sarfo and Luke Rolinson battled hard in the third game, but narrowly lost their point after forcing their opponents up the eighteenth. The Worcester Golf & Country Club pairing of James Lloyd and Aaron Bryan also took their game up the eighteenth and finished solidly to secure a good half point, before Patrick Leydon and George Westwood brought home Worcestershire's first full point of the day.

At lunch Warwickshire had a commanding 4 ½ to 1 ½ point lead, however spirits and belief were still high in the Worcestershire camp and we aimed to win the afternoon singles.

The singles started quite like the foursomes, with Warwickshire coming out the blocks quickly to take three out of the top four points, however Alex Band continued his singles winning run to pull one back. Brandon Sarfo took his match down eighteen once more, this time taking a good half point before James Lloyd added to his half point from the foursomes with a solid half. Worcestershire's lower order finished strongly as we won three out of the last four points, Josh Wood won convincingly in the twelfth game 5&3.

Overall not the result we were looking for, but some promising performances that we can build on. Our next match is away against Derbyshire on the 27th July.

Many thanks to Kings Norton Golf Club for hosting this match and once again to Roger Martin and Stuart Pritchard for all their support on the day.

Ian Henry, Worcestershire Boys Manager
