The Worcestershire Boys arrived at Wishaw Golf Club for their second league match of the season. We had previously beaten Derbyshire at Kings Norton, but away from home is always a tough challenge.
Wishaw Golf Club had hosted some college golf tournaments, so three of our team had played the course before. The course pretty much played how you could see it except for two dogleg holes and some short driveable par fours. The team shared valuable information and discussed various tactics before heading out for the morning foursomes.
Once again the foursome pairings remained similar to winter training and the match against Derbyshire, so all players looked calm on the first tee. All but one of the Worcestershire’s tee shots flew straight down the middle and we looked confident. Worcestershire Captain Jack Severn and his partner Evan took the first point of the morning in game one, however the next four games were much tighter with them all even through twelve holes. Watching on I felt confident that we could win more points, but unfortunately Warwickshire edged all remaining games on the last to take a 4 – 1 lead.
Worcestershire needed to dominate the singles to have any chance of winning this fixture. The team headed out positively and despite good wins from Evan, Ted and Aaron we couldn’t make inroads into Warwickshire’s lunch time lead.
The Boys next fixture is against Shropshire and Herefordshire at Leominster Golf Club on Saturday 30th June. The league results have been very open so all is still to play for.
Thank you to Roger Martin our assistant manager, Grenville Rose and Bill Thompson for your support throughout the day.
