On a beautiful sunny day, over 90 golfers from 19 golf clubs across Worcestershire converged on Kidderminster Golf Club to contest the 68th Annual Club Team Handicap Competition for the Brand Hall Gold Vase.
The course was in immaculate condition, for which the course manager Rod Hunter and his team should be congratulated, especially as the course had suffered the effects of a severe storm only a few days earlier.
Due to the nature of the event, 4 best nett scores from 5 players, it was not always easy to see who was in pole position. However, consistent scores from the early players for Kidderminster, Fulford, Redditch and The Worcestershire indicated that the winner may come from within this group.
In the event Ben Myatt, playing at number 5 for Redditch GC, recorded the best score of the day, 70 gross, net 69, to snatch the team event by one shot from Kidderminster GC. The other team members were Jack Buckley (81 nett 76), Matt Vigurs (78 nett 78), Steve Bird (77 nett 76) and Tom Mee (77 nett 76).
There were 7 teams within 10 shots of the winners and these were Kidderminster, Bransford, Fulford Heath, The Worcestershire, Hollywood and Gaudet Luce - all should be congratulated on a fine effort.
Ben Myatt was the individual gross winner, which meant that Wayne Meiklejohn from Gaudet Luce was the nett winner with 79 gross, 70 nett.
The Worcestershire Union of Golf Clubs would like to thank everyone for their support in making this such a successful event. Particular thanks go to the team at Kidderminster Golf Club including the Office Staff, the Green Staff, the Professionals, the Catering team and Brian Adams the President who helped with the prize giving ceremony.
