The Annual County Dinner 2016
Some 240 guests, players and club members attended another successful annual dinner at Kings Norton Golf Club on Friday 15th January 2016.
A 15 strong top table consisted of The President of England Golf, Mr Nigel Evans, OBE, who proposed a toast to the Union.
Mr Will Painter, WUGC County President, duly responded and warmly thanked the County Executive, the County players and everyone who'd volunteered their time to support the Union in achieving such success last year. He also presented the 2015 team points winners with their respective shields. A rolling slideshow, displaying pictures of all the County Trophy and Team winners was well received by the attentive audience. His entertaining speech culminated with the 1st Team players receiving their medals for winning the 2015 Midland League as well as giving a special mention to the County Seniors for winning the EGU Midland Qualifier to reach the National Finals.
On behalf of the guests attending,Mr George Macgregor, OBE,and immediate Past Captain of the R&A responded by painting a wonderful picture of the kind of year and considerable amount of travelling he's recently undertaken as the R&A Captain. The finale was provided by the highly entertaining, Mr Ian Richards, who had the whole audience 'rolling in the aisles' with his sharp humour.
Once again, the whole evening was effectively planned and orchestrated by the highly efficient County Secretary, Mr Stuart Pritchard.
The County would like to thank Kings Norton Golf Club for hosting the event and there were many extremely positive comments about the quality of the newly re-furbished ballroom and AV equipment. The plentiful and well cooked food was provided by Weatheroak Catering under the expert direction of Mr Paul Gittins, Head Chef.
