Seniors Christmas Bash Report - 1st December 2017
A bright, frosty morning greeted the 33 seniors who'd made the trip to Droitwich GC for the annual Christmas end of season 'get together'. Nominated team captains drew their playing partners out of the hat and off they went to negotiate the very tricky, icy greens in a team stableford format.
Droitwich golf course was in great condition and it was much enjoyed by all the players. A two tee start really helped and the first class hospitality shown by everyone at the club, especially the catering staff with their excellent chilli and lasagne options at the end of play, were exactly right to warm everyone up.
It was also great to see the Droitwich Club Captain, Jeremy Clarke, coming out to meet and greet the players for a glass of port, mince pie and sausage roll at the half way house.
Following a good chat and short fun quiz, which was won by the team of Steve Carpenter, Tom Mooney, Nigel Cowley and Pete Craddock, it was time for the prize presentations.
With one score to count on each hole but two on each par five and all three on the par three's it made for some interesting scoring options. The seniors wish to extend a big thank you to Stuart Pritchard and Tony Edwards for their excellent support in helping with all the registration admin tasks at the start and score cards at the end.
1st place with 54 points - Steve Green, Fred Fawkes and Tony Sanders
2nd place with 50 points - Mark Carpenter, Les Stallard and Adrian Cook
3rd place with 48 points - Bill Thompson, Neville Clarke and Mick O'Donnell
Longest drive on the 9th - Bill Thompson
Closet to the pin on the 18th - Adrian Cook
To bring the event to a close, Paul Newman, County Seniors Captain, thanked everyone for their support and briefly outlined his aims for the 2018 season. He's keen to build on the successes of 2017 and ensure that, above all else, the great team spirit within the whole seniors squad carries on. The County President, Grenville Rose, thanked Paul for all his hard work in planning and preparing for this event, which ran like clockwork. Grenville then presented the following end of season senior trophies to finish off, what was, a very enjoyable day.
Bill Thompson, Bolton Shield winner for the most individual points in the 2017 season
Steve Green, Seniors Rookie of the Year for 2017
The County Executive would like to thank everyone at Droitwich G.C. for supporting this event so enthusiastically. The course was in excellent condition for the time of year whilst the bar and catering staff provided a first class service. The County look forward to returning Droitiwch GC again in 2018.
