Some 6 months after the start of the winter inter-club knockout events, teams from Hagley G&CC, Moseley, Gaudet Luce and Droitwich arrived at Hagley G&CC on a bright, but breezy, Sunday morning to compete in the finals of the Droitwich Shield and the Kidderminster Cup.

As is traditional the 3 Droitwich Shield matches (for men) led the way off the 1st tee, swiftly followed by the 3 Kidderminster Cup matches (for seniors). County President, Grenville Rose, undertook the starters duties, and there was a sizeable crowd around the 1st tee to ensure there was a good atmosphere.

Most matches ebbed and flowed throughout the day, with Hagley G&CC taking the top match in the Droitwich Shield, but with Moseley taking the second match. Thus, the 3rd match would prove decisive and despite a solid performance by the Hagley pair, Moseley's pair of Mark Dunkley and Dan Downes were to prove victorious. A 2 v 1 victory for Moseley.

In the Kidderminster Cup game, the first match went all the way to the 18th and ended all square. However, the 2nd and 3rd matches both went to Gaudet Luce, giving them an overall 2 1/2 v 1/2 victory.

It was good to note that all players and supporters stayed for the presentations, which were conducted by Will Painter, WUGC Immediate Past President, and competition organiser Dave McDermott, WUGC Vice President. Will thanked all the teams and their players and supporters for making the day really memorable, and also thanked Hagley G&CC for hosting the event.

Thanks were also given to Tony Edwards, Chief County Referee, and John Brothwood for referring the matches.

The County is looking forward to returning to Hagley G&CC for the County Championships in June.
