Firstly may I thank the staff, officials and members at Trentham G.C. for the very warm welcome that all the teams received for this most important tournament and I hope that whichever club in Worcestershire host this event next year can equal the efforts of Trentham.
Under the tutelage of team manager Ian Henry we spent four hours plus on our practice round plotting our way around a testing golf course.
Our boys were well prepared and were focused on scoring within the 70's as a team, with the real focus being ' play for the team ' the boys carried out this, by enlarge, very well.
I think, we were caught out a little by the double cut greens in the morning then by the speed of the grass growth in the afternoon on those greens, there was a marked difference.
Solid performance's from our captain James Robinson and Tom Godfrey, who was hampered by a ankle injury pm.
Ben Finch and Matt Osborn scored well am, but couldn't quite find those scores again pm.
Jake Kelly was very consistent and has a further two or three attempts in this Tournament which bodes well for us.
Harry Lane's score did not reflect the effort he put into his two rounds of golf. Harry was selected for his performance earlier in the year at Trentham, which impressed James very much, and once again it was clear to see Harry's fighting qualities.
So what does the above equate to, well we finished 7th with a score of plus 59. Northamptonshire won with a score of plus 28, congratulations and good luck to them in the final.
Were we all disappointed, to coin a fashionable phrase, 'hell yes' did we play badly ' hell no '. I was proud of our team and I know Ian was too.
I would like to thank the lads for the way they represented our county, thank Ian for all of his efforts once more and Stuart Pritchard and President Painter who both attended to give our lads much welcomed support.
