EG County Championship Midland Qualifying at Robin Hood GC - Saturday 24th June 2017

TEAM RESULTS

INDIVIDUAL RESULTS

On Saturday 24th June Robin Hood G.C. hosted the Midland qualifying for the EG Men's County Championships. A typical English summers day with plenty of swirling breezes and on a course that was in superb condition provided a good test for the 60 players taking part. A good days practice on Friday afternoon left the team in high spirits and looking forward to Saturday’s challenge.

Adam Norman led the side out at 8.10 looking to get a good score on the board early to give the rest of the side a boost, a triple bogey 7 at the 9th was difficult to come back from but he fought his way to a 73 (+1). The next 2 players to finish were Chris Nugent and Richard Sadler but unfortunately the guys didn't have things go their way both shooting 78 (+6). James Robinson had a frustrating time and finished with a disappointing 76 (+4), after putting in a decent effort in the British Amateur Championship earlier in the week, but you knew he'd score better in the afternoon. The last 2 guys to come in from the morning round were Tom Godfrey and Steve Lane, both players again were left frustrated as they felt they played better than their score shooting 75 and 74 respectively. A morning team total of +22 left us 26 shots behind the leaders Lincolnshire so some better scores in the afternoon were needed to regain some pride.

A much better performance in the afternoon saw the team shoot a total of (+9. Adam, Chris and Steve all had similar stories, shooting frustrating 74's (+2). Tom shot a (+3) 75, and there was some better news from James and Richard, hearing they were both under par on the course. Richard birdied 13,14 and 15 to get himself -3 for the round, and even though he dropped a couple of shots coming home he still recorded a great score of 71 (-1) regaining some pride after the disappointment of his morning round. Unfortunately the 18th at Robin Hood G.C cost our side 8 shots in the afternoon round and 2 of those were for James who finished with a (+1) 73.

The team for the day finished in 6th position on a score of +31. It didn't quite happen for us this year but I'm sure they'll be a better performance in the 6 man team at Coxmoor, Nottinghamshire next year. Congratulations go to Staffordshire who won by 2 shots from Lincolnshire with an impressive total of 860 (-4).

I would like to thank Stuart Pritchard for all his hard work and support during this week, President Grenville Rose for his continued support of the 1st team and Past Presidents Bill Thompson and Will Painter for showing their support on the day at Robin Hood.
