Launch of 2018 Worcestershire Boys Order of Merit

Although you can never be sure, it looks like the worst of the winter weather is coming to an end and I am sure that we are all keen to plan our schedule for the year ahead. The 2018 Boys Order of Merit starts with 4 events in May - the season opening Junior Open at Churchill & Blakedown GC on Saturday 12th May, quickly followed by Junior Opens at Kidderminster GC on Sunday 13th May, Gaudet Luce GC on Sunday 27th May and Kings Norton GC on Wednesday 30th May. Why not get the season off to a flying start by playing all 4 of these events? The full list of confirmed 2018 events is shown below. Most of these events already have entry forms available on the golf empire website.

The Boys Order of Merit is run alongside the individual events, and you do not have to enter separately. Points will be awarded to any Boy who is a Home Member of a Worcestershire Union affiliated club who finishes in the top 10. As last year, points will be awarded as follows:

1st place 150 points

2nd place 120 points

3rd place 100 points

4th place 90 points

5th place 80 points

6th place 70 points

7th place 60 points

8th place 50 points

9th place 40 points

10th place 30 points

Double points will be awarded for the Worcestershire Union of Golf Clubs Boys Amateur Championship event which is being held at Hollywood GC on Monday 30th July, as this is held over 36 holes. (Please note that there is no minimum age limit to enter the Boys Championship.)

All points for 2018 will be awarded on the basis of nett positions in the events.

A cumulative points table will be posted on the Worcestershire Union of Golf Clubs website https://www.worcestershireamatuergolf.co.uk throughout the season.

The overall winner will be the player who has accumulated the most points over the season, up to and including the final event at Hagley GC. The more events you enter, the more chance you have of winning.

Prizes are to be awarded to the top 3 players over the season. All ties will be decided by a count back on the number of 1st place finishes, then 2nd place finishes if required, and so on, over the whole season. The decision of the Worcestershire Boys Order of Merit 2018 Organiser is final.

The Worcestershire Union of Golf Clubs would like to thank the 18 Worcestershire affiliated clubs who have agreed that their Junior Opens can be used as the basis for the Worcestershire Boys Order of Merit 2018.

It is not too soon to map out your season, and get your entry forms in for these Junior Opens. Good luck.

Stuart Pritchard

Worcestershire Union of Golf Clubs Secretary
