MGU U16 Team Championship - Kedleston Park Golf Club
So it was the final event of the season for the under sixteen squad. This event always feels late as the winter coaching starts next week as we look to build for next season.
The venue was Kedleston Park Golf Club in Derbyshire. An undulating park land course with many long dogleg par fours, it was going to really test the boys. We arrived on Saturday afternoon, gathered as a team and prepared to walk the course. The boys took note books and their putters with them so we could plan the best way to play each hole and practise on the greens. The greens at Kedleston are large, but you are required to hit the right part of the greens to have easy access to the hole.
At dinner that evening we discussed as a team how it was important to grind until the end of the round, as every little shot even if the total score is bad could help the team. I stressed the importance that the round must be enjoyed and each player must display positive body language to give the best opportunity of a good score.
Unfortunately the team did not perform to the best of their ability and we finished lower than our potential. However their were a few outstanding performances from Will Stott and fourteen year old Jack Severn as they both shot five over. We hope they can take confidence from their scores and kick on.
It’s now time to analyse our season as a team and individuals, so we can plan how we can improve over the winter. Thank you to everyone who has supported the boys throughout the season, we hope we can improve and bring success next year.
