Sixteen boys started out very early on Saturday 19th Oct to contest the John Fraser Trophy for the 2103 Boys Match play. There was some excellent scoring in the mild conditions and the course was in superb condition.
There were many good battles in the morning, the highlight being a fine 2&1 win by Jack Mutton against Josh McMahon who was one of the favourites. The afternoon quarter finals started with an incredible win by Oliver Farrell. Despite playing near par golf, Giles Blakely could only watch and admire as the three birdies and two eagles from Oliver led to a resounding 8&7 win. The County would like to wish Oliver all the best as he heads off to the Greenbrier G.C. Washington D.C. for the finals of the Faldo Series next week. In this form, he should have a very good chance of victory.
In the other matches, Tom Godfrey played very solidly and was just too consistent for Jack Mutton, winning 6&5. Oliver Gough managed to win on the 18th green against Tom Howells after both players had visited the water whilst a titanic battle between Roman Croft and Josh Thorpe went down the 19th. By now, the weather had changed and in terrible wind and rain, Roman just edged it in the end.
The County would like to thank Mark Ralphs who presided over the organisation and general management of the whole day's events.
The semi finals will be between Oliver Farrell v Oliver Gough and Tom Godfrey v Roman Croft. The date will be published soon.
The four Semi- Finalists:
Oliver Farrell v Oliver Gough
Tom Godfrey v Roman Croft
