Senior Foursomes - Stourbridge GC on Monday 8th May 2017 - Report

A small but select field of Worcestershire Seniors made their way to Stourbridge GC on Monday 8th May 2017 for the annual Senior Foursomes tournament, where trophies were available for best gross and best nett.

The course was in excellent condition, and although dry, there was a breeze that made scoring tricky. Despite these difficult conditions scoring was generally very good, and the home pair of David Wainwright and Trevor Robinson produced a spectacular round of 76 gross (66 nett) which meant that they took the Wharrad Jugs for the best gross, ahead of Mark Carpenter and Tony Sanders (Worcester G&CC) who finished on 78 gross.

The Aberdovey Salvers for best nett was won by Richard Hardy (Droitwich GC) and Garmon Ingman (Stourbridge GC) with a 73 nett, who just edged out Gary Bristow and Peter Lawton (Redditch GC) who scored 73.5.

Prizes were presented by County President Grenville Rose, who was keen to thank Stourbridge GC for hosting the event. Grenville made special mention of the very friendly welcome given to the players and officials by everyone at Stourbridge GC. Grenville also thanked the referees, Brenda Binnie and Tony Edwards, Dave McDermott (starting and scoring) and Denis Hayes (scoring) without whom the event could not take place.
