Seniors EGU Qualifier report and scores - Hawkstone Park 17.8.17

EGU Qualifier Report - Hawkstone Park 17th August 2017

After good preparation by the team everyone was ready for this annual 36 hole stroke play event to decide on the Midland Champions. Having won this in 2015 and 2016, the County team were ready for the challenge to try and make it three in a row. Excellent preparatory work had been carried out by Paul Newman (Vice Captain) beforehand and the team were very grateful for on course support from Pete Adams ( Team Captain) Mark Carpenter (1st Reserve) and Dave McDermott ( Vice President) on the day itself.

Our representative team was: Craig Pates ( MoseleyGC), Steve Green ( Rose Hill GC), Steve Carpenter ( Stourbridge GC), Gary Bristow (Redditch GC), Will Painter (Kidderminster GC) and Bill Thompson ( Kings Norton GC)

Heavy overnight rain and during the morning delayed the start by over an hour. The bunkers were declared GUR and placing was allowed on all fairways. Nevertheless, the course soon dried out, making playing conditions very favourable throughout the quite sunny, but windy day.

The Warwickshire Team took the overall lead after the morning session and there was much to do in order to catch them. The Worcestershire lads responded extremely well and with some better scoring in the afternoon we nearly pulled off a remarkable win. Eventually, we fell just five shots short of the overall winners, Warwickshire, who we wish every success in the finals later this year.

This was a great effort by everyone involved, both players and supporters, demonstrating that our seniors have come a long way and are now seen as a strong force within Midland Seniors golf. The players would also like to thank the County Executive for their commitment and full support for the seniors section this season.
