Seniors record a 12-6 win against Leicestershire in season opener

County Seniors 12 v 6 Leicestershire

Venue : Kings Norton G.C. on Wednesday 23rd April 2014

The County Senior Team began their 2014 season with a solid win against the Leicestershire Seniors. On a windy and quite rainy day, Kings Norton was playing at its full length. The greens were beginning to show some early season speed and the course was prepared to a very good standard. The hospitality, as always, was excellent and everyone enjoyed the fine meal and speeches at the end of the match. Leicestershire are always welcome visitors to Worcestershire and regularly provide a stiff challenge but it would seem that that the Worcestershire Seniors excelled themselves with this fine win. As always, the Worcestershire Seniors look forward to a return visit to Leicestershire next year. A full Captain's report will follow shortly.

This is a confidence boosting win for the County Seniors as they begin their first season in the new league format next week against Nottinghamshire at Wollaton Park.

Match Report.

The Morning Greensomes were keenly contested, three of the matches went to the last green. Three matches were won, two were halved and one was lost, giving a 4 points to 2 advantage. The afternoon four balls saw the same pairs going to the tee not only competing against the opposition but some wet and windy weather. The first four pairs out all recorded good wins against very good Leicestershire players, our remaining two pairs narrowly lost close matches.

My congratulations to Roger Martin and Neville Clarke who were both playing their first full county matches. Well done to Bill Thompson, Rob Buckey,Peter Adams and Roger Martin who won maximum points in their matches. Also Bryan Swain, Steve Carpenter, Phil White and Martin Cartwright who remained unbeaten. The final match score finished 12 points to 6 in favour of Worcestershire.
