Seniors v Derbyshire at Alfreton GC on Monday 3rd July 2017

The Seniors arrived at Alfreton GC in good spirits to play Derbyshire in their first Midland League match this year. Alfreton is only 11 actual holes with separate tees to make it up to 18. It's quite hilly and demands high levels of accuracy off the tee to be in the right position to approach the undulating greens.

The Worcestershire pairings worked well in the morning's 9 hole foursomes, and after some tight matches we led 3 1/2 to 2 1/2 at lunch. As the players familiarised themselves with the course they grew in confidence during the four balls and ran out 9-3 winners on points. The Derbyshire team were expecting a home win on such a tricky course but all credit to the Worcestershire lads, who have made a very solid start to their league campaign, winning the match 12 1/2 to 5 1/2.

It's Warwickshire up next on the 13th July at Worcester G&CC.

Many thanks to everyone at Alfreton GC for looking after us so well. The course was in fine condition and proved to be testing, but fair challenge.
