The Seniors started their 2018 league campaign with a win against Derbyshire at Hagley GC on Tuesday 3rd July 2018.
It was set to be a very hot day for both sets of players, and it was important that plenty of water was available for both teams.
Both teams were made very welcome to Hagley GC by "Head of House" and former Captain, Mr Keith James, who did a sterling job all day.
The morning 9 hole foursomes started at 10.00am, with the Worcestershire Team led off by Bill Thompson and Steve Green. There was to be a big advantage to the Worcestershire players as they had nearly all played at Hagley in the Senior County Championship only the week before, and Worcestershire took a commanding 6 - 0 lead into lunch.
All the Worcestershire players knew that they would have a tough battle in the afternoon against a strong Derbyshire team, led by their Captain, Keith Brown. In the end, Worcestershre came out on top 17 - 1, with a tremendous effort from each player.
As Captain I would like to thank all 12 players, especially Andy Baker who was playing in his first match. Also a big thank you to Hagley GC for hosting the match, especially to Keith James, and all the Hagley GC staff for looking after everyone so well.
It was good to have the support of Graham Yardley, Dave McDermott, Denis Hayes and past Senior Captain, Pete Adams.
The team are already looking forward to their next match against Warwickshire on Thursday 12th July, at Leamington and County GC.
Paul Newman, County Senior Captain
