Match Score Sheet

The county senior team were all set to start our 2019 campaign with another strong performance, but a strong and determined Gloucestershire team had other ideas.
We all welcomed the away team, captained by newly appointed Rob Stephens over coffee/ tea and bacon baps. As we were all preparing for the morning foursomes the weather was not looking favourable for quality golf.

Strong winds, heavy rain and, to top it off, very cold, so we all put on waterproofs, gloves and head gear, and off we set to the first tee.

It was very much appreciated by all players to be formally announced by our starters Mr Alec Mackie in the morning foursomes, and then by Mr Dave McDermott for the afternoon singles.

With everyone battling the weather conditions, the result of the morning matches were A/S - 2.5 points each with the only win of the morning going to the Worcester G&CC pairing of Mark Carpenter & Tony Sanders.
After a light lunch the singles were selected and off we all set to battle the elements again.
Unfortunately our seniors found the conditions very difficult, and with some excellent play by Gloucestershire, they came out on top 14 - 4, in the afternoon singles.

Overall a good win for Gloucestershire, 16.5 to 6.5.

Congratulations go to Tony Sanders for winning both his morning and afternoon matches - well done! There was also a great afternoon win for Steve Green in the singles.

Congratulations also to Pete Desmond for playing in this his first senior match, and he was presented with a senior County tie.

Over a wonderful dinner it was agreed by all players that the Evesham Golf course was beautifully prepared by their green staff, especially given the awful weather conditions. The food and service all day was first class thanks to head chef Mark New, Bev and the girls.

I also like to say a big thank you to head professional Robert Steele for his help throughout the day.

A huge thanks to all members of this wonderful club for not only hosting this event but for closing the course thus allowing the match to run smoothly. Everyone at the Worcestershire Union of Golf Clubs appreciate your ongoing support for County Golf.

All Worcestershire seniors players were very proud to play for their County and were very pleased and honoured to be joined by our newly appointed President Mr David McGillivray.
Finally we all would like to wish Gloucestershire a successful season both on and off the course.
Overall a great day.

Paul Newman
County Senior Captain
