Both teams arrived at Gaudet Luce GC on Tuesday 17th April to see the course looking in excellent condition for this Senior Friendly match.
The morning foursomes started with our pair of Bill Thompson (Kings Norton) and Steve Green (Rose Hill) playing the Leicestershire & Rutland Captain, Alan Turton, and his partner Phil Adcock.
Steve Green (far left) and Bill Thompson (2nd left) with their partners from L&R on the 1st tee at Gaudet Luce GC.
After the morning session, Worcestershire had a lead of 4 ½ - 1 ½ points.
After a short break, the match resumed with all players on top form.
L&R came back strongly in the afternoon, to gain a solid 6 – 6 points score.
The overall score was thus 10 ½ - 7 ½ in favour of Worcestershire. Team Captain, Paul Newman, congratulated all the Worcestershire players for securing a good win against a strong L&R team, who had defeated us 14 ½ - 3 ½ in last year’s match. Paul also noted that the Bill Thompson & Steve Green pair had, once again won both of their matches on the day.
Match Score Sheet
A huge thank you goes out to Alex Fernihough and his team for hosting this match and looking after everyone so well. The food was first class as was the welcome. Special thanks to Andrew Laing, head greenkeeper. The course was in excellent condition, especially after all the recent wet weather.
Paul also wanted to thank Grenville Rose, County President, and Jim Gray, County Vice President, for their support on the day.
All in all, we had a fabulous day at Gaudet Luce GC!
Paul Newman, Senior County Captain
