Match Report

The seniors were in very good spirits as they arrived at Overstone Park GC, near Northampton, for this annual friendly fixture. It was great to see players such as Pete Craddock, Ian McGillivray, Pete Adams, Ian Warner, Phil White and Rob Buckey turning out again for the seniors side.

The Overstone Park Golf Course, designed by Donald Steele and opened in 1992, is quite tricky in places as it winds its way round the huge hotel and leisure complex. It is quite hilly, but it flows well and offers a good mix of holes, particularly the 17th, a tough par 3 over the lake.

None of our team had ever played the course before and after the morning greensomes the Northants team had put their local knowledge to good effect and led by one point, 3 ½ to 2 ½. Therefore, the lads had to dig deep in the afternoon four-balls to overcome a strong Northants team, well led by their enthusiastic Captain, Alan Wrigley.

In the end, it was a very solid team performance from the Worcestershire Seniors during the afternoon, superbly winning four out of the five matches. Congratulations to Bill Thompson & Steve Green, Mark Carpenter & Will Painter and Pete Craddock & Ian Warner, who all remained unbeaten on the day.
