Seniors v S&H Match Report 29.7.15

The County Senior Team together with the S&H Senior Team at Kington G.C

 County Seniors 6 v 12 S&H at Kington G.C. 29.7.15

On England's highest course, offering magnificent views from every fairway, the very quick greens ( running at 11.5), blustery conditions and various 'blind' shots presented the players with a tough challenge. Nevertheless, the matches were closely fought with some reaching the tricky 18th, which proved to be a severe test in itself, much to the enjoyment of the members who had a grandstand view from the clubhouse, just a few yards away.

Captain's Match Report:
This is the first time S&H have entertained the Worcestershire Seniors at this venue. The hospitality shown to everyone was excellent and the quality of the breakfast bap, lunch and in particular, the carvery meal at the end of a tiring day was not only first class but offered exceptional value. Thanks also to the greens staff at Kington who prepared the course to such a high standard for the match.

S&H fielded a very strong home side and they made a very positive start winning the morning greensomes 5/1 in windy, cold and drizzly conditions. The afternoon four balls were a closer affair with Worcestershire losing 3/2 with one match being halved.  This resulted in a 12/6 win to a very good S&H team.

As last year, this match was the decider as to who represented the West League in a West v East play-off. We wish S&H every success in their match against the East Region in October.

Congratulations go to Bill Thompson, Steve Carpenter, Phil White and Bryan Swain who scored 5 points for the team and remained unbeaten for the day.
