Seniors v S&H - Match Report 30.7.13
Match Report – Worcs Seniors V Shropshire & Herefordshire
Our match against SHGU took place on Tuesday 30th July 2013 at Upper Sapey Golf Club.
Most of the matches in the morning 9 hole greensomes went to the 9th green and the lunchtime position was 3 points each. Peter Adams/Willie Kerr were up against stiff opposition and lost by 3 and 2. Bryan Swain/Terry Lawson and Laurence Hawker/Grenville Rose recorded extremely close matches and both pairs finished with a well deserved half. Ricky Chima/John Silvester also had a tight match and managed victory on the 9th green. Richard Coverdale/Robert Buckey knitted well together and came in with a 4 and 3 win. John Swann/Peter Craddock also had a tight game but two birdies late on sealed their fate and they lost by one hole.
The afternoon fourballs went the same way as the morning greensomes in that matches were keenly contested and close.
Peter Adams/W Kerr were under the cosh and finished with 2 birdies in the last 3 holes to achieve a halved match. Bryan Swain/Terry Lawson also experienced a close game with only the odd holes changing hands. A half was a true reflection of their match. Sadly John Silvester/Ricky Chima and Laurence Hawker/Grenville Rose took their respective games to the last hole but lost by one hole. Richard Coverdale/Robert Buckey continued their morning domination and won by 4 and 3. John Swann/Peter Craddock had a very close game until their opponents went 2up at the 14th with an outrageously long put down the McKenzie green. Poor driving at the 16th resulted in them losing 3 and 2.
The weather was really kind to us as the heavy clouds past us by all day with only the occasional shower.
With two matches in the one week player availability was very much restricted, which had an effect on Team selection. Having said that all Worcs players experienced a very in form side and my congratulations go to Andy Robinson on their first victory against us for some years.
