Seniors v Warwickshire at Leamington & County GC - 12th July 2018

The Worcestershire Seniors Team travelled to Leamington & County GC on Thursday 12th July for their annual Midland League Match against Warwickshire. Both teams received a very warm welcome from Club Manager, Bryan Frazer, and would be well looked after all day by both the catering and bar staff.

The course was in excellent condition and proved to be a tricky test for all the players.

The morning foursomes were evenly contested and finished 3 - 3, so all was to play for in the afternoon fourballs.

The afternoon games were as equally hard fought as the morning foursomes, with both teams winning two games. The difference in the end was in the last two games, which were both narrowly won by Worcestershire.  Overall, a fine win for Worcestershire by 11 - 7.

I would especially like to mention the 3 Worcestershire pairings that won both their morning and afternoon matches: Ian Smith (Worcester G&CC) & Bryan Swain (Stourbridge); Craig Pates (Moseley) & Martin Cartwright (Fulford Heath) - both new pairings; and Roger Martin (Kings Norton) & Paul Newman (Droitwich) - Roger playing some of the best golf I have seen.

After the match, the Warwickshire Captain, Mark Reynolds, was kind enough to point out that it seemed that Worcestershire had a 13th player due to their great organisation and exceptional team spirit. Good luck to Mark and his team in the forthcoming EG Midland County Qualifier.

I would like to thank the players from both teams for playing the match in the true spirit of the game - each match hard fought, but in a friendly manner.

Well done to all the Worcestershire players, who are I know are already looking forward to the next match, against Shropshire & Herefordshire, at Shifnal GC on Tuesday 24th July.
