U14 Boys County 6 at Broughton Heath GC - Saturday 1st September 2018
60 of the best U14 Boys from across the 10 Midlands Counties arrived at Broughton Heath GC in Derbyshire on Saturday 1st September 2018 to contest the annual Midland U14 Boys County Team Championships.
The Worcestershire Team was:
- Harvey Jones (Kings Norton)
- Huey Adams (Hagley)
- Louie Stott (Bewdley Pines)
- Sam Rowbottom (Kings Norton)
- Dan Wakeman (Hagley)
- Elliot Jones (Gaudet Luce)
- Roger Martin (Kings Norton) Team Manager
The format is 36 holes over the par 3 Broughton Heath course, with the best 5 scores counting both morning and afternoon. The total combined score would produce the winning team.
The boys met at 7.30am for a team meeting, followed by breakfast, and an opportunity to warm up on the range. Unfortunately, because of a 50 minute delay for fog, the benefits of the warm up were significantly reduced as the boys waited for the day to warm up.
The morning round did not produce the results we all hoped for, but there was a great improvement in the afternoon, which pulled us up into a creditable 4th place.

The day was capped by a fantastic afternoon round of 55 by Dan Wakeman (Hagley) - one over par on a very tricky par 3 course - which was to be the best round of any player on the day. Dan was presented with a prize by John Stubbings, the President of The Midland Golf Union, to recognise this achievement. Hugh Adams
(Hagley) had an afternoon 57, which was the 3rd best score of the day.
