U14 Boys Development Squad Match at Bromsgrove GC on Friday 1st June 2018

14 boys who have been part of the U14 County Development Squad were invited to Bromsgrove GC on Friday 1st June 2018 to take part in a County match. The format was to be 3 x 4BBB matches and a singles match between the two team captains, Elliot Jones (Gaudet Luce) and Sam Richmond (Bromsgrove).

All four matches were played in an excellent spirit, and the quality of the golf was very high. Many of the players will surely become the bedrock of future County Teams at U14, U16 and U18 level.

The fourball matches were between:

George Stephens (The Vale G&CC) & Nathan Wood (Gaudet Luce) against Callum Brierley (Hagley) & Josh Griffiths (Gaudet Luce)

Thomas Blizzard (Droitwich) & Lewis Tolley (Worcester G&CC) against Callum Jones (Bromsgrove) & Thomas Griffiths (Droitwich)

Sonny Priestley (Gaudet Luce) & Teddy Fee (Gaudet Luce) against Josh Thorpe (Redditch) & Joe Meads (Blackwell)

Whilst the match was won by Sam's Team 3 -1, the key reason for holding the fixture was to look at how the boys dealt with the whole day. In this respect, County U14 Team Manager & Coach, Tom Warbrick, was impressed by the boys attitude and how they all approached their matches. He can already see some potential foursomes partnerships for future County matches!

The course at Bromsgrove GC was in superb condition and the boys really enjoyed the whole day. The welcome from all the staff was second to none and nothing was too much trouble to ensure the lads had a day to remember. The County would highly recommend Bromsgrove GC for a visit.

The day was finished off by sandwiches and chips followed by ice cream, for tea. The two captains, Elliott and Sam, gave very articulate speeches, thanking Tom Warbrick and Bromsgrove GC for arranging and hosting the event.

The County is hoping to arrange another match for the U14 development squad later in the year - probably in the main school holidays.
