Match Report: U14's v Staffordshire on 9th September 2018
at The Lickey Hills GC
It's been many years since the County visited The Lickey Hills GC. Nestled in the foothills, this course provides a stern test for any level of golfer with its raised greens, steep slopes and well designed holes. Many golfers in Worcestershire have fond memories of playing here as it was seen as a course where you could start off playing the game. The U14's were keen to put their skills to the test against Staffordshire U14's on this hidden gem.
The U14 Team gathered on the putting green before their match began.

It was Harry Hawkesford's first full County match, and I am sure he will become a regular in the team given his great attitude, and fighting spirit.
The match would be contested over 5 4BBB matches, over 18 holes.
The course was in excellent condition, well prepared by Head Greenkeeper, David Collins, and his team. The players, officials and parents from both sides were full of praise for the golf course which is an excellent test of golf, and boasts some spectacular holes, which would make it into any combined best 18 hole course in the Midlands.
Every match was very close at the turn, and this pattern was to remain through the back 9. 4 of the 5 matches went to the 18th hole, a beautiful downhill par 3, which was to change hands on 3 out of 4 occasions. Unfortunately, in such a tight match, the odd shot can make all the difference to the overall result, and despite a win from Dan Wakeman (Hagley) & Elliot Jones (Gaudet Luce), and hard won halves from Louie Stott (Bewdley Pines) & James Ilsley (Dudley) and Mark Hewlett (Gaudet Luce) & Thomas Lennon (Halesowen) the team lost 2 - 3. In the other matches Santino Francolini (Redditch) & Cassisus Blake (KIngs Norton) played some great golf, but lost 2&1, whilst Hayden Sarfo & Harry Hawkesford (Bromsgrove) lost on the 18th in a very tight match that could have gone either way.
