U14s v Seniors at Worcester G&CC 30.3.15

 U14 Boys v Seniors at Worcester G&CC

A fine day greeted everyone involved in this match. The boys assembled very promptly and were given clear guidance by Graham Farr ( Head Coach) , Tom Warbrick ( PGA U14 Coach and Manager ) and Roger Martin (WUGC U14 Manager) about their expectations for the day.

Meanwhile, the County Seniors assembled in the bar area for a coffee and bacon bap before stretching their limbs on and around the putting green.

After the boys had 'warmed up' with their coaches the match was quickly underway. The boys were well represented with 14 players. 10 in the match and four playing a reserve game.

The Seniors were a mix of regular players and some who had only played a few games last year. However, Seniors Captain, Grenville Rose, took the opportunity to introduce two new players to the scene who were made very welcome. They were Paul Newman ( Droitwich G.C. ) and Martin Mahon ( Kings Norton G.C.)

The match was, as always, keenly contested and with the Seniors having to give shots it added an extra level of pressure for them to deal with. Great sportsmanship and positive attitudes prevailed as some of the matches went all the way to the last few holes. There were some notable performances from Patrick Leydon, Brandon Sarfo and Harry Pugsley ( U14 Captain). The final result was a close win (3 matches to 2 ) for the boys. Tom Warbrick was extremely impressed with the way in which the Boys prepared beforehand and worked together during the match to make decisions about each shot. This bodes well for the season ahead which everyone is very excited about.

The County would like to thank Worcester G&CC for their wonderful hospitality throughout the day as well as give high praise to the greens staff for preparing the course to such a high standard for the match.

Pictures of the day ....
