The boys arrived atCleobury Mortimer on the back of a draw against Shropshire andHerefordshire. Staffordshire had already sealed the league victory aweek prior to this match, however all the team were as keen as everyto deliver a perfomance. The home side had Cameron Green making hisfairwell appearance and under eighteen debuts for Jack Belli, TomWakeman and Tom Newton.

The foursomes looked tohave started well for the home side with early leads in three of thefive games. However Staffordshires clinicalness in the top two gamesgave them the lead in the dying stages and they took an earlier twonill lead. Harrison Leaver with debutant Jack Belli held their nervewinning on the seventeenth green before team Tom and team Worcestermade it three two before they got to the seventeenth. So a good solidstart for Worcestershire.

So we needed fivepoints from a possible ten in the singles to be victorious. As Iwatched the team tee off I felt like we could do with  a strong startin the top order to take the pressure off the lower games.Unfortunately for the home side Staffordshire edged the top five gamethree and a half to one and a half, although Evan stood strong andcame back from one down with two to play to claim a gutsy half andCameron signed off in style with a win. So this would mean our lessexperienced players would need to step up to find the other three anda half points. James Lloyd and Tom Newton won their points but theStaffordshire players out chipped and putted us in the remaininggames to seal the win.

Thank you to all at Cleobury Mortimer Golf Club for the use of your facitiy and hospitalilty throughout the day. So off to Ross on Wye for the Sevenside Tournament later this week.

Finally I'd like to wish Alec Band and Cameron Green all the best for the future. They have both played a major part in the county boys teams over the past five years and I hope they both continue to work hard at their golf.
