After weeksof sunny hot weather the boys team arrived at Leominster Golf Clubwith some cool cloud cover, however the forcast was for another hotday. The team gathered in the club house from breakfast and a teammeeting to discuss the course and foursomes tactics. Three playershad played the course before, but couldn't remember many holes so wetargeted trying to come out even from the morning foursomes.
Shropshireand Herefordshire had a very strong leading order so when Jack andEvan managed to win the first point on the seventeenth hole the daystarted on a high. Games two and three went to the home team beforethe under sixteen pairing of Aaron and James Yorke won on thesixteenth hole. Finally the Worcester pairing of James Lloyd and Benwon to give Worcestershire a three two lead at lunch and a greatplatform heading in to the singles.
Once againShropshire and Herefordshire started fast in the singles winning thefirst three games, before Paddy held on with a fantastic two putt onthe eighteenth to win Worcestershire's first singles point. JamesLloyd, Harrison and Aaron all won their matches early with somefantastic golf in firm and fast conditions, setting up an excitingfinish. So Hughie was left out on the cousre with the entire matchdown to his result. As we caught up with him on the fifteenth hole hewas one down and looking like going two down before he holed a thirtyplus foot putt for a par and to halve the hole. He played thesixteenth hole perfectly to level the match before hitting a superbtee shot pin high on the seventeenth. Hughie narrowly missed his parputt and his opponent holed out from nine feet for the half and totake the match down eighteen all square. Both players played thefinal hole perfectly hitting the fairway and green in regulationbefore two putting to half the match.
A draw was afair result over the day, but frustrating as it didn't help eitherteam set up a really good chance of winning the league. So we nowrely on other result and need a good win against Stafforshire to havea chance of defending the West Midlands title.
Many thanksto Roger Martin, Dave McDermott, Stuart Pritchard and all the parentsthat stayed to support the team. Hope to see you all at the BoyChampionship on the 30th July at Hollywood.
