Under 16s 12 v 6 Derbyshire at Hagley G&CC 1st August MATCH REPORT
U16 Team v Derbyshire at Hagley G&CC, Thursday 1st August
Match Report by Mark Ralphs
Under sweltering conditions our under 16 team played their first league match of the season at Hagley Golf & Country Club against Derbyshire. Although it is my own club, I have to say along with all the players and Derbyshire officials, that the condition of the course was first class, perhaps never better in all the time I've been a member.
The foursomes was a tight affair, they were shared 3 rubbers each our top three pairs being the mainstay. Our last three pairs suffered a little bad luck, but the Derby lads played very well. To the singles which I thought would be again very tight, but what a performance our boys gave, winning eight rubbers and sharing two, which could very well have gone our way. You will see from the results sheet that we had some big wins. Our Captain on the day, Nathan Dyke, led from the front and our quiet pair of James Drury and Lawrence Hill racked up big wins which powered our mid field, which in turn confirmed the team victory.
I should like to thank the Hagley Captain, Ken Butlin, for attending the morning session and I should also like to thank the county Vice President, Graham Yardley, for acting as Starter for the day and for lending his much welcomed support to me. Thank you lads for a very welcome victory, for turning out so well and for playing the game in the correct spirit. The only thing left for me to do now is select our side for the triangular match against S&H and Staffs on August 12th. This will be a very difficult task
