We arrived at Little Lakes Golf Club bathed in sunshine, however it was cold and damp underfoot from the overnight rain. Gwent were our opponents for our final friendly match before the league season kicks off.

At breakfast we spoke a little about the course, although not in great detail as every member of the team had played the course and knew how to approach each hole. Most of the discussion was based on how well the season had gone so far, and how as a team it was once again crucial to build on our recent wins. We want to make winning a habit.

Once again we had a strong line-up, allowing me to use the same successful pairings in the foursome matches. The target is to go into the singles with a lead, as last season we found ourselves chasing in the singles far to often. The foursome matches went extremely well with Worcestershire taking four from a possible five points, and the only point we lost wasn't given up lightly as Jack and Will battled to take their match down eighteenth.

The singles order was once again left as previous matches with our captain for the day Matt Osborn leading the team out. All the team showed great patience and mental resilience in what was a very windy afternoon and we managed to win a further eight points. Will Stott recorded the highest winning margin with a 5&4 win playing as our anchor, however every win is worth the same one point for the team.

Reflecting on the match the biggest positive we can take as a team are the amount of points we took down the stretch. In total seven matches went down the eighteenth and Worcestershire won five of those matches. This is a great improvement from last year,

So that’s three wins in a row now, lets hope we can take this form into our first league match against Derbyshire on the 24th April at Dudley Golf Club.

I'd like to thank Mark Ralphs for organising the match and Stuart Pritchard for his support throughout the day.
