Worcestershire Boys Vs Warwickshire Boys - 1st May 2016 - Henley Golf Club

Worcestershire Boys Vs Warwickshire Boys

League Match

Henley Golf Club

1st May 2016

The Worcestershire Boys team met for breakfast at the earlier time of 7.45am at Henley Golf Club. Once again similar conditions to the week before with the wind being colder than you would expect for the first day in May. We new immediately that only well struck shots would be rewarded in these conditions.

The foursome matches were once again closely contested. However we had discussed this in our pre match meeting and everyone new that we would need to perform down the stretch if we wanted to win matches.

The highlight of Worcestershire's foursome games was watching Nathan Slater hole out from fifty yards on the eighteenth to win the hole with an eagle. More importantly this meant that Nathan and Ollie Lowe halfed their game. This half point was crucial as we finished the morning all square with Warwickshire, with two and a half points each.

The singles started well with Matt Osborn delivering an early point with a fine six and four win. Our second player Nathan Grant unfortunately lost the eighteenth hole to an eagle and could only manage a half point from his game. Warwickshire then started to take control of the singles winning seven out of the last eight games. Worcestershire’s Jack Severn did however win his game, picking up his biggest winning margin to date with a five and four win.

When you look at the overall result it reads as a heavy defeat, but look closer and you can see that three games went down the eighteenth with Warwickshire just having enough to win those games. On another day we may have taken these points and won the match.

As a team we will once again learn from this experience and try to come back stronger in June when we face Shropshire and Herefordshire at Burghill Valley.
