The annual friendly fixture against Gloucestershire is always played in good spirits, but it is only a friendly on paper as the boys once more try to prove themselves in a competitive match. Unfortunately Gloucestershire were only able to put together a team of six players to face our ten boys, so as a team we felt it only fair to give all our players a part in the match.

In the team talk we discussed how this match was a good opportunity to once again test ourselves before a very important Triangular match next Monday. The team were full of confidence after an away win in Derbyshire and as a team we wanted to build some momentum. We discussed how some of the holes could be played, depending on each players individual strengths and how they saw the hole.

Gloucestershire took the lead in the foursomes quite early with a good win in the top game, however Rhys and Luke continued their good partnership winning two and one to level things up. The final match on the course went the distance, however Aaron and George’s par on the eighteenth wasn’t quite enough to level their game and Gloucestershire took a small lead into lunch.

We switched the team around a little at lunch and the six singles players were very much up for the challenge. Ted, Jack and Cameron played fantastic golf and all won their games five and four. Alex and Josh showed good character down eighteen to win their games down the last two up and one up. James Lloyd battled hard against his opponent showing great body language and determination as he birdied the sixteenth to take his game down the seventeenth. However his opponent holed a putt from distance to guarantee a point for Gloucestershire.

Back to back wins for this Worcestershire U16 team and some good form to build on. Thank you to Stuart Pritchard, Roger Martin and once again to the parents that stayed to support our boys, the team enjoy seeing you out on the course. Also a big thank you to Hollywood Golf Club members for the use of your well presented course and professional Lee Brotherhood for the use of his buggy.
