Worcestershire U16 Vs Leicestershire & Rutland U16 - REPORT
Worcestershire U16 Boys Vs Leicestershire & Rutland U16 Boys
12th June 2016
Halesowen Golf Club
As we arrived at Halesowen Golf Club the rain started to fall and at times quite heavily. The course looked in great shape and all the team were excited to be playing.
As Halesowen was the venue for the 2015 Boys Championship the whole team had played the course at least a couple of times before. Joe Price an under eighteen county regular was also working in the shop and had some useful information on how some holes were playing. So when we sat for breakfast and our team meeting we shared a lot of useful information.
The team had a couple of changes from the previous match against Glamorgan so the foursome pairing had to be rearranged. However I felt confident with the pairings and so did the team.
From what I could see all the foursome games seemed pretty tight on the front nine. Tee to green both sides seemed to match each other, but as we turned in the back nine Leicestershire and Rutland seemed to have more luck on the greens. The new pairing of Luke Rolinson and Patrick Leydon managed to complete their victory on the seventeenth, but at lunch the away team had a commanding four to one point lead.
We new at lunch we had a lot to do, but it certainly was not impossible. Each player wanted to deliver a point and seven were needed if we were going to turn the fixture around. The leading four matches were played at a high standard with birdies being exchanged. There were some fine battling performances but unfortunately for Worcestershire halving three out of the first four matches wasn’t going to be enough as we needed the full points. However our team showed great spirit with a few birdies on the eighteenth to snatch a half point, so we much take this positive away with us.
Congratulations to Leicestershire & Rutland on a fine win. We look forward to seeing you again in 2017.
I’d like to thank Paul Johnson and his staff in the proshop for all their help throughout the day. I’d also like green keepers for presenting the course in great shape following flash floods just days before. Finally thank you to Stuart Pritchard for starting the match and our assistant manager Roger Martin for all his support throughout the day.
The under sixteens next match is against Warwickshire at Kings Norton on the 22nd July.
