So to the last Worcestershire Boys match of the season. We were playing Staffordshire at Hollywood Golf Club. Both teams were competing for second place in the league as Warwickshire had already secured the league, but as always the match was very important and we wanted to finish the season on a high.
The boys arrived for breakfast and a short team meeting as the pairing had already been decided and every team member new the course well. Planners were supplied free of charge so all players had the vital information to get the most out of their ability.
Unfortunately Staffordshire had a player withdraw at a late stage due to injury. This allowed Callum Green our reserve to play against Nick Johnson for competitive practise. Thank you Callum for making yourself available at a very late call.
The morning foursomes started well with our captain Oliver Farrell and Tom Godfrey putting an early point on the board. Unfortunately the regular pairing of Josh Bryan and Oliver Gough couldn't quite keep their good foursomes record going but Cameron Hogarth and Lawrence Hill soon added another point by winning at the final hole to secure victory. Finally the morning foursomes came to a good end when Matt Osborn and Ben Finch battled back from dormie two down with a birdie birdie finish to grab a half point. Worcestershire lead 3 ½ to 1 ½ at lunch.
At lunch everyone was in fine spirit and with it being the last every boys match for four of the team everyone was determined to keep the good momentum going. The singles went even better with the first five points all coming in Worcestershire's favour and securing the overall match win. As everyone gathered on the eighteen to watch the final match it felt like nothing could go wrong and Matt Osborn played an exceptional pitch and holed the putt to birdie eighteen and like in the morning claim another half point for Worcestershire.
So we finish the season well and with the majority of the team still available next season we will work hard through the winter and try to better ourselves once again. We bid fair well to Oliver Farrell, Josh Bryan, Cameron Hoggarth and Matthew Rogers. I'd like to thank them for their commitment to the boys teams and wish them all well in their future golfing careers.
Finally a big thank you to all at Hollywood Golf Club for the use of your course and clubhouse. I know the boys enjoy playing the course and we have now won two matches out of two there. Thank you Mark Ralphs, Stuart Pritchard and Bill Thompson for your support throughout this match and the season, I know the boys appreciate a friendly face while out on the course.
