Worcestershire Under 18s Vs U16s - REPORT

23rd March 2014

Venue – Kings Norton Golf Club

So it was the beginning of a fresh season and a new fixture for both the under 18's and 16's. Oliver Gough Captained the under eighteens as Oliver Farrell was unavailable and Lawrence Hill made his début as the under sixteen captain.

As manager of both sides this gave me the opportunity to see both teams performing and each match was played at a high intensity as all players wanted to prove themselves.

I saw a lot of good golf throughout the day that is encouraging going into a new season. Notably a fine eagle on the ninth hole by Ben Finch and Cian Lowe's drive on to the sixteenth green.

The morning foursomes was taken convincingly by the under eighteens 4 ½ to ½, but two of these points were won on the eighteenth. Maybe experience was the difference but both sides will benefit from these matches.

The singles in the afternoon were a closer affair with the under eighteens edging it 6 points to 4. However all but a few went past the sixteenth which showed good character as through nine holes a lot of the under sixteens were losing.

A big thank you to King Norton Golf Club for hosting this match and looking after as players and officials.

Finally I'd like to congratulate both teams for their efforts, but most importantly I thank Mark Ralphs and Stuart Pritchard for their help and support throughout the day.
