The team gathered early a Harborne Golf Club as we wanted to have plenty of time for a team talk, breakfast and warm up. Our team on paper was young but with four or five players having played here last season in the Four Counties tournament we felt confident that we could win away from home.
Worcestershire started slowly in the foursomes games but the two year old pairing of Oliver Gough and Josh Bryan made a fantastic birdie two on the last to add another victory to their record. Cameron Hoggarth was paired with Harry Lane (debutant) and the Wharton Park duo played exceptionally well together and came in with a brilliant 6&4 win. Unfortunately for us the home team just snook the foursomes 3 -2 and lead at lunch.

So we went into the afternoon singles knowing that a 6-4 afternoon performance would be enough for the team to win the match. This was by no means out of our reach.
Worcestershire started well as Oliver Gough delivered the first point shortly followed by James Robinson and Josh Bryan. This meant we had three out of the first four games. Warwickshire rallied and took some crucial points before Harry Lane on his debut fought back from two down with four to play to win the last game on the course. A fantastic debut.

Unfortunately for us the afternoon single were drawn at five games each so the match was just taken by Warwickshire. Congratulations to their team.
Overall a very close match that was won by the team possibly with a slight experience advantage, but we will be stronger with this experience. As we only lost by one game point this still gives us a good chance in the league if we can win our remaining fixtures.
I’d like to thank Warwickshire and Harborne Golf Club for their hospitality and use of their well kept course. It was also good to see the County Officials attending, namely, Mark Ralphs, Bill Thompson, Brian Peplow and Stuart Pritchard. I know the boys appreciate the support on the course.
