Worcs Boys v Kings Norton GC Scratch Team - Sunday 2nd April 2017 at KNGC

After 6 months of winter coaching the Worcestershire Boys Team were looking forward to their first serious match of the 2017 season, against a Scratch Team from Kings Norton Golf Club ( Ollie Lowe on 1st Blue Tee pictured above), and everyone turned up at least 30 minutes early!

After a team meeting led by Ian Henry (Team Manager) the boys went out to make use of the excellent practice facilities at Kings Norton GC to warm up.

The Kings Norton Scratch Team Captain, Lee Jones, had put together a very competitive team, but was not able to play himself due to a recent injury.

The format of the match was 5 x 9 holes foursomes, followed by 10 x 9 hole singles, but with all matches being played to the final hole, and the winners being the team with the most holes up in total at the end of the series of matches.

The foursomes saw good 3UP "wins" for the Jack Severn/Brandon Sarfo and Alex Band/Harry Chadwick pairs which meant that both sides were 6 holes up after 9, with all to play for in the singles.

Joe Price and Josh Marshall (pictured)set the ball rolling finishing their singles matches 2UP and 3UP respectively, with further "wins" for Alex Band, Harry Chadwick, James Lloyd, Ollie Lowe and Aaron Bryan. In total the boys finished the singles 15UP against the KNGC team 3UP, so the match was won 21UP against 9UP.

The whole match was played in beautiful sunshine, and the welcome from Kings Norton GC and their Scratch Team made the day highly memorable. Joe Price (Boys Team Captain) made a short speech at the end of the match and was keen to thank Lee Jones and his team for the game, and also Kings Norton GC and its members for hosting the match. Joe also thanked Kings Norton for hosting a number of Winter Coaching sessions.
