We arrived at Dudley Golf Club for our second league match of the season. Warwickshire were our opponents and a county that we have not beaten for some years. However, after a strong start to the season, which included a second place finish in the Four Counties tournament and a convincing away win again Derbyshire, confidence was high.

As the team gathered in the clubhouse for breakfast and a team meeting we had little to discuss about the course. The entire team have had lots of experience playing Dudley due to the club's welcome support of our under sixteen side in recent years. Our meeting was purely about making sure every player had the belief that we could continue our good form and the correct mentality needed for a long day's golf.

The foursomes started well with Joe Price and Nathan Slater starting the ball rolling with a victory in game one. Jake Kelly and Alex Band quickly added to that point, taking the second game and forming maybe the start of a good partnership. The biggest winning margin came next as Connor Thomas and Harry Chadwick won superbly, six and four, and gave Worcestershire a commanding lead. Unfortunately, we lost game three and the fourth wasn’t looking great until Ollie Lowe and Will Stott managed to fight back in their game from three down to all square on the final tee. The game eventually went to Warwickshire, but we lead three two at lunch.

The team tee’d off the singles knowing that five points would be enough for us to continue our winning run, but each individual had a goal to deliver one point. As we have discussed many times, win lose or draw every point could make all the difference come the end of the season. Our Captain, Joe, once again led by example, winning the opening point and Nathan soon followed to set the team up. However, Warwickshire battled back taking games three and four before Cameron delivered the third and what would turn out the be the crucial point on the seventeenth green. Jack Severn found some individual form as he took the course apart to win six and four, and thankfully our anchor man, Connor, came up with the fifth and match winning point as he won five and four.

So, after two league matches, we have two wins and stand in a very strong position going into our next match against Shropshire and Herefordshire. I hope we can continue our good run of results when we return to Hollywood next month.

I’d like to thank everyone  at Dudley Golf Club for hosting us and once again making us feel very welcome. Thank you to Stuart, Roger and Bill, and everyone who supported us throughout the day.

Ian Henry, Worcestershire County Boys Manager
