The second match of the season saw us travel to Shrewsbury GC to play a decent Shropshire and Herefordshire team. After breakfast I put my faith in the young pairing of Alex Emms and Phil Krone and they easily won 3 &1 to put the first point of the day on the board. The second match with Tom Howells and Louie Stott fought hard to earn a good half point. Myself and Lee Evans played an up and down match but finally came out 4&2 winners, The final two matches with long term county guys John Cullen and Neil Grubb and the new guys from Worcester C&CC  James Howl-Newton and Simon Green had convincing wins of 5&4.  So 4½ to ½ up after the morning foursomes and lunch tasted very nice indeed.

The wind picked up considerably in the afternoon and with the very firm greens made in incredible difficult to judge the approach shots. Balls landing on the greens would just about hold the back edge but a front pin meant having to land the ball short and hope for a friendly bounce.  Needless to say both side struggled with S&H coping better than us. Alex Emms played well to beat his opponent 3&2 to make it 2 from 2 wins on the day. Myself and Neil Grubb won our matches giving us 7½ points but we needed a half point for the win. With the Majority of the matches in favour of S&H it was looking that a half was inevitable. But up steps James Howl-Newton, after being 5 down at one point in the match made a brilliant comeback to get all square playing the last few holes. James had a putt on the 17th to win his match but just slipped by the hole, a half down the last gave us what we needed to win.

I just like to thank my guys for their total commitment for the day that gave us a 7-8 win. Thanks to Paul Newman who made the journey to support the team and thanks also to the Captain of Shrewsbury GC who followed most of the games alongside Paul.  The clubhouse staff looked after both teams all day and the course was presented excellently.
