UNDER 16's BEGIN SEASON WITH A WIN!

Worcestershire U16’s v Derbyshire U16’s

Our U16 team travelled to Erewash Valley GC to face Derbyshire in our opening league game of the season.

Under blue skies and warm temperatures Erewash Valley GC provided some stunning views and holes. The course was in superb condition given all the recent rainfall so it was always going to provide some spectacular golf.

The morning foursomes started slow for the Worcestershire pairings and after an hours play all 4 matches were down. However, going through the turn the Worcs boys began to find some form with Teddy Fee and Alex Perry turning their match around with their never say die attitude from being 2 down through 12 to closing their match out 2&1 on the 17^th. The pairing of Oliver Badger and Euan Choi providing the performance of the morning by completing an impressive 4&3 win.

With the match tied at 2 points each at lunch, it was all to play for in the afternoon singles.

The singles started in a tight cagey affair with never more than 1 or 2 shots in any of the matches. Going into the turn the match was still in the balance with either side looking like winning, but then the Worcs middle order produced some excellent golf under pressure and the match swung in the away teams favour, starting with Harry Evans (3&2) and Alex Perry (4&2) which was quickly followed by an impressive Oliver Badger (5&4). The rest of the matches were still very tight, with the away team only needing another 1.5 points to secure victory. We didn’t have to wait too long as Worcs continued to keep the pressure on the home team and further victories followed from Teddy Fee (1up), Euan Choi (1up) and Joe Lonergan (3&1) saw Worcs  over the line in what ended up as an amazing victory 8 points to 4 points.

Huge congratulations goes to all of our players who showed great resolve and determination throughout the day which was epitomised by the captain Teddy Fee who could barely walk by the end of his match with a hip injury. They all played extremely well and provided the perfect team performance.

My thanks also go to Paul from Derbyshire who acted as starter on the day as well as Erewash Valley GC for their hospitality and producing a golf course in great condition, all of the parents for their continued support and a special thanks to Luke Perry and Mark Evans for their help and support on the day.
