In their first competitive match of the season the U16's faced a tough challenge against Gloucestershire at Naunton Downs Golf Club. On a chilly misty day, a majority of the morning foursomes pairings were behind early on but gradually, as the fog lifted, they fought their way back into contention with Cassius Blake and George Stephens and Ollie Smith completing comfortable wins. With the score at 2 points each our final pairing of Harry Evans and Teddy Fee were 3 down playing the 14th but with some outstanding play managed to turn the match around and secured a win on the 18th green.

Going into the singles with a 1 point lead, the captain Mark Hewlett led by example by racing into a 5up lead after 11 holes and eventually completed a 6&4 victory. The other singles matches were much more of an even contest with the match score changing regularly. With victories by Hayden Sarfo and Ollie Smith, who contributed maximum points on his debut, it was left to Lewis Tolley and Teddy Fee to win their matches and enabled the team to win by the narrow margin of 8 points to 7 points. Well done everyone!

Thanks to all the parents who supported the team as always - especially on 'Mothers Day'. My thanks also go to Mark Hewlett and Kevin Fee for their valuable contribution and support throughout the day and to Naunton Downs Golf Club for their hospitality.

Final score - Gloucestershire 7pts   Worcestershire 8pts
