The U16's faced a difficult task when they took on Warwickshire at Stonebridge G.C. in their final league game of the season. Once again we were able to select from our squad players as injuries, holidays and personal events affected team selection. 

Despite this our players were keen to challenge a strong Warwickshire team whose average handicap was approximately 4 shots lower than the Worcestershire boys. On an unfamiliar course where the hard, dry conditions made course management difficult, Warwickshire played some very steady golf in the morning foursomes which proved difficult to respond to. There was a narrow defeat for Teddy Fee and George Stephens but a fine win for the Ollie Smith / Lewis Tolley partnership (2&1) who are proving to be a very successful pairing. Nevertheless, Worcestershire were only 1 point behind after the morning session.

In the afternoon singles our captain for the day Cassius Blake led from the front by winning his match 2 up in a high quality contest. However, our only other victories came from Ollie Smith (5&3) who achieved maximum points from his 2 games, and Joe Lonergan (4&3) who was playing in only his second team event for Worcestershire. The team battled hard all afternoon to get something out of their matches but were eventually beaten by a strong and more experienced Warwickshire team.

Congratulations to all the team for their positivity not only in this game but to all players who have represented the U16's throughout the season. They have been a credit to the County in both their attitude during matches and their conduct both on and off the course which is always very important.

Congratulations to Simon and the Warwickshire team for their victory. To Stonebridge Golf Club, the ground staff and the caterers for the welcome and hospitality shown throughout the day and to the continued encouragement by the parents and family members whose support is vital to all the boys county teams.

A special thanks to Kevin Fee who team managed the boys during the afternoon singles matches, without official support and did an outstanding job which was appreciated by all the players.
