The annual match between Kings Norton Seniors and a Worcestershire Development team was established several years ago to offer some of our U12's the experience of playing a competitive match before representing Worcestershire in an inter county competition.
The opportunity for the boys to play against senior players with experience and on occasions an alternative and effective way of playing shots and thoughts on course management offers a valuable education that we hope will prove useful in the future.
The juniors, captained by Mark Hewlett, did field a few of the U14 team due to some unavailability which resulted in giving additional shots to some of the senior pairings which proved to be important. In very hot conditions the Senior team led by captain Martin Thompson used all of their experience, wisdom, shots and home advantage coupled with playing some very steady golf proved too strong and inflicted a 5-1 defeat on the junior team.
As far as the juniors were concerned, there were narrow defeats for Max Wesley and Ollie Badger (1 dn) who were giving 15 shots to one opponent, and Beau Langford and Harry Jones who lost 2&1. Our only victory came from the pairing of Ollie Ansell and Oskar Neilson who won 4&3. Despite the result, it was a great day and hopefully the boys gained some valuable knowledge from each of their matches.
Thanks to Martin and his team for an excellent day and to Kings Norton Golf Club for hosting the event once again, also to the ground staff for producing an excellent course in the middle of a drought and to the catering staff for the meal and hospitality during the day. Finally, our appreciation go to all the family members who attended, to Mark Hewlett for all his continued efforts and to both the Kings Norton President Stuart Pritchard for fulfilling the starting duties and to the U18 County player and Kings Norton club member Cassius Blake who came along to support the team.
